Project Description
This project comprises a carefully considered extension to an existing aircraft hangar located air-side at Brisbane Airport, supporting operations for small aircraft storage and ongoing aircraft maintenance. The design responds to the demanding functional, operational, and acoustic requirements inherent in a live air-side environment, while delivering a refined architectural outcome.
A key challenge was addressing acoustic performance without compromising flexibility or access to the apron. This was resolved through the introduction of a large-format, sliding framed wall, allowing the hangar to adapt to varying operational needs while providing effective acoustic separation between maintenance and administrative functions.
The extension introduces new administration offices and support spaces, along with a dedicated staff lunch area that improves daily amenity and workplace functionality. These spaces are carefully integrated within the existing structure to minimise disruption to air-side operations while enhancing internal clarity and circulation.
Externally, the project includes an upgrade to the hangar façade, providing a more cohesive and contemporary expression befitting its prominent airport setting. The refined façade treatment improves the visual presence of the facility while aligning with the robust, utilitarian character required of aviation infrastructure.
Together, the project delivers a practical and efficient upgrade that supports the operational demands of aircraft maintenance while improving staff amenity and architectural quality.
